My Story

d'Orsays at dinner was created in 2014 with clean, healthy meals in mind. Living in the Bronx, I carved out a couple hours a day in the kitchen and came up with some of the first recipes I ever truly wrote. I was determined to create something meaningful. There were açaí bowls, breakfast pizzas, stir-frys, soups, pastas, and every variation of quinoa and kale imaginable. Lots of plants, yes. But I wasn't quite there yet. My partner and I started a pescatarian diet around this time and we had no idea what that would turn into for us.

Flash forward to 2017, now living in Philadelphia, we started our vegan journey. Philly is an incredibly vegan-friendly city. I quickly became passionate about nutrition and started my own personal research on the topic through books, health symposiums, webinars, documentaries, podcasts, and more. I started freelancing and writing plant-based nutrition-focused blogs for a local vegan restaurant which really hammered home the importance of plants in one's diet. Now d'Orsays at dinner follows a whole-food, plant-based method and focuses on longevity, disease prevention, and overall wellness. Moved by doctors, dietitians, and experts in the vegan community, I felt an urge to use food as medicine in the most healthful and delicious way possible. I knew our health care system was failing us.  I knew that doctors were prescribing pills over plants and I had to jump in where I could. I personally have battled with migraines and gut issues since I was a teenager. When I implemented the changes to my diet that are in my program, my symptoms virtually disappeared. And an added benefit, the excess weight I couldn't shake was off and has stayed off for years.

What's d'Orsays!?

dorsays.jpg

This was a photo I took for my original d'Orsays website.  Our oven in the Bronx with d'Orsays heels from Zara.  The d'Orsay shoe (pronounced door-say) was originally worn by men in the 1800's.  Count Alfred d'Orsay was an artist, a nobleman, and a former soldier with the French military who first put this style of footwear on our radar.  It is said that the Count created the the sleek, cut out d'Orsay in 1838 as a military shoe.

"The d'Orsay pump leaves the sexiest part of the foot, the curved instep, naked. The curve of the instep resembles the curves of a woman's body, and it is normally not exposed, but hidden from view. " - Christian Louboutin.

Vegan Fashion

Having a background in footwear and accessories design brought on the idea of fusing food with fashion.  I had an aha moment as a vegan when I realized that I could no longer create footwear made from animal skins. I studied and worked extensively with leathers from school to my professional life, sourcing materials for past design jobs. It was the only thing I knew and understood for so long and I had a bit of tunnel vision when it came to the idea of quality leathers. I leaned into the alternatives.  Now, there are really good, sustainable alternatives, made from plants! Keep an eye out for blogposts which will go into everything from nutrition to ethical and sustainable shopping.

It's a really exciting time to:
Eat plants, Wear plants.
